Nonsequiter

There is a gorgeous storm going on, right now. ^_^

I tried fiddling around with the polyclay I presently have, and find that it really isn't suitable for making anything... excepting fishes. (Bonus points if you can name that movie.) I need more Sculpey if I want to make anything different, and it's likely going to be a couple more days until I get my check, so I just have to sit on the inspiration and hope it doesn't evaporate.

I heard back from the gallery, and they say that, since I'm going to move out of their range, soon (you have to live within a hundred miles of the gallery to show there), and their waiting list is so long that my stuff probably wouldn't get in there beforehand, they have decided not to show my work. They said they really liked it, though, that it was rather unique, and they're sure I'll be able to find a place willing to show it. So, Monday I'm going to see if another gallery I know of in Nashville that isn't constrained by distance will show it, and if not that, then there are a couple shops in Bloomington, and if not those I'll see about an Etsy shop and then see if there are any good places near Morris that would be interested.

Work continues slowly but surely on the short story, though I had hoped to have it done before now. It may end up being more of a novella. :-P Not that I mind; this is fun, even if it can be frustrating at times. So far, the most difficult thing seems to be drawing inspiration from my Muses (Lovecraft, Barker, Gaiman, changeling legends, and just a touch of Frankenstein) without imitating them. Given that the core idea is a bit similar to Coraline (girlchild heroine kidnapped by a motherly villainess), it would be really easy to drift into pastiche, but I'm trying really hard to avoid it. Besides that, it's one of the Big Four reasons why the fae kidnap people in the old stories:

1. They want a lover.
2. You have excellent skill at something and they want you as a servant/entertainer.
3. You pissed them off and they want to punish you personally over a long period of time.
4. They want a kid.

*shrug* What can ya do? Hearteningly, the two people I've showed the work in progress to say there's enough difference that the paralell seed has become its own plant, so to speak. ;-P
