Two phrases that destroyed the American culture
The one thing in this article that I feel I should speak out on is the "you have to earn my respect" thing being primarily attributed to teens. Frankly, the people I've heard it most from were my grandparents (Y'know, the ones who tried to rais me to be a good Catholic girl with the spine of a wet noodle?) and teachers, when I was growing up. I don't know if it's just a generational thing or what, but for some "adults," if you're younger than them, you're barely human. If teens are saying it, it's because they learned it from these idiots, and that's why they have bad attidtudes. If they're saying it to adults, odds are they're presuming based on their experience that the adult would be just as crass, so they're beating them to the punch.
I would expect that to be a pretty big reason why I have problems with most authority figures...
