I'm baaa-aaaack. ^_^

What a glorious trip! It was over far too soon. *swoons*

The train was actually early for once. Pulled into Chicago around 10:20 Wednesday. Wound up finishing the new copy of Brave New World I'd purchased to keep myself occupied while I waited for Aurey to meet me. You know those scenes in old movies where the lovers rush toward each other and kiss passionately, oblivious to the hustle and bustle around them? That was us. The only thing missing was a swell of exultant music playing in the background. ;-P

From Union Station we caught a cab to the Talbott Hotel and checked in. The room was rather spacious and quite pretty. Much nicer than the Stanley or the Palmer House Hilton (until then the only fancy sort of hotels I'd stayed at). He presented me with a beautiful collaged box he'd made.  It was black and glittery and had this lovely iridescent blue fabric and a picture of a peacock feather, and he'd filled it with cherry cordials.  After exploring the room, familiarizing ourselves with the mini bar (which offered everything from scotch to a chocolate cow), and a little frolicking, we grabbed lunch and took the CTA to a... rather nice shop Aurey knew of. After making a couple of well-chosen purchaces (very well-chosen >:-) ) we returned to the hotel and set about figuring out where to have dinner. Aurey, being a man of exquisite taste, suggested the Shanghai Terrace. It was fabulous! Lucious food, wonderful ambiance, attentive service, and the perfect companion to share it all with. ^_^  We.... didn't sleep much that night... ;-)

The next day we ordered a delicious omelette from room service, checked out of the hotel and went to the Art Institute. In a couple hours we saw many gorgeous works, notably Jan Sanders van Hemessen's Judith, several Monets, Ivan Albright's Door (and of course our dear friend Mr. Gray), Edward Hopper's Nighthawks, Archibald Motley Jr.'s Nightlife, some O'Keeffes, Some lovely artifacts from ancient Egypt, The Thorne Miniature Rooms and the Armoury. And that's just scratching the surface... To see everything (to take the time to really look at it all) would take at the very least a whole day, likely two. (Something I wouldn't mind doing at some point... Not to mention that I still need to see the Field Museum.) After that we went back to Aurey's for a bit, dressed up as though we were going to a Hollywood premiere and went out to see King Kong at the 2nd run theater near his house. ;-P

Friday, a couple hours after waking up we showered and Aurey cooked us a marvelous breakfast. We watched the Mummy and went galavanting around LaGrange, had lunch at a chinese restaurant where I tried my first strawberry daquiri, then went to a bead shop. Returning to his house we watched Rent. After that, he serenaded me as we walked back to the LaGrange station to board the train back to Chicago proper so that he could see me off. *Sighs* God I wish we'd had longer... There's no one I'd rather spend the rest of my life with.
