*[livejournal.com profile] pumagrrl asked me about five subjects she associates with me (leave a comment if you want to play too):

Faeries: Faery-lore is one of my favourite things, and the older the legend the better. In the oldest legends, they were indistinguishable from a human, aside from actually generally being taller, either breathtakingly beautiful or terrifyingly ugly, and infinitely more powerful. You had a 50/50 chance of them hurting you or helping you, depending on their whim. They were embodiments of nature and chaos, and were worshiped and feared as such.

Naturally enough, as human society advanced, gained more mastery over its environment and began to take it for granted, the fae became equally trivialized. By roughly the Elizabethan era they were "the little people", and around the Victorian, butterfly wings and flower petals came into the picture. So now, what was this, this, and this, is now commonly seen as this.

Storytelling: I've done some storytelling in my time, both as a GM and as a writer. I don't do as much of either as I used to, but it's still part of me. I plan on getting back into both more actively.

Mythology: Another life-long love. It started with Greek Mythology when I was six or so, and wanted nothing more than to be Athena when I grew up, from there I got into Celtic and Norse and had casual flirtations with African, Egyptian and Native American, among others. Lately, Japanese. (Surprising, I know. :-|) It'd be fair to say that my love of mythology is a big reason why I feel more at-home as a pagan than I ever did as a Christian. (Even though I find that mythology interesting too.)

Doctor Who: This love is fairly new, but no less fervent. I've only been into the show for the past couple of years or so. I've seen most of the new episodes, but very little of the Classic stuff. This is something I mean to correct. I think I'd particularly like Four, and possibly Seven... :-?

Japan: Another fairly recent love, which originated around the same time as my devotion to the Doctor. ;-P Similarly, I've only really scratched the surface of everything there is to explore about it, but the deeper I go the more fascinated I get.

*I was going to take my little sister to Bloomington today, because she needs jeans and the mall had been closed last time I took her over. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't happy enough. :-P So, we went over to the local Waffle House, instead. We ended up helping a legless man in a wheelchair. The lift in his van was malfunctioning, so we got some of the waitresses from inside the restaurant to help us get the thing working again. Oddly, none of the clientelle in the place was inclined to help, in spite of the fact that there were at least a couple who looked like they might have known something about mechanics.

Afterward we went to Volde-mart to pick up some juice and things, and my little sister wanted to explore the Easter aisle. She found edible grass, there, which was imported from Germany, and insisted that it was "Grass-tastic!". Of course, she had to find out if it really was. It was more Green-Apple-tastic. We drove home with bits of it hanging out of our mouths, mooing out the car windows.

Yes, we're complete and utter dorks.
