Oct. 12th, 2008 06:31 pmTook another hike out at the nature preserve, today, hoping to relieve some tension caused by the growing difficulty of not punching my boss' son. :-| Cocky little eighteen year old dork who thinks he's going to impress me by talking like a "gangsta" (in spite of the fact that he's a spoiled little rich Indian boy from the rural midwest who probably hasn't even been within a mile of a ghetto) and asking overly-familiar questions. I may have to have a word with his dad before I leave around January...
Since Dad was holding off dinner to wait for me, I took a half-mile trail instead of one of the mile-long ones I tend to favour. I'm glad I did; it's a nice patch of forest. Halfway through, I sat under an ash tree for a little while and watched leaves fall and listened to the wind.
On the drive out, I encountered a small deer standing by the side of the road. I stopped the car and we admired each other until another vehicle came trundling up and scared it away. The "yang pair" (which I have since learned are actually Great Egrets, the "yin pair" being Great Blue Herons) were the only ones visible in the swampy bit in back of the preserve, today. I watched them catch fish for a while before heading home. Beautiful birds; so white that their feathers seem to shine when the sun hits them just so. ^_^
And now for bratwurst... /:-)
