Jul. 12th, 2008 02:11 pmToday seems to be dominated by the act of going out to eat. I was roused at noon to go with my little sister, my step-mother, her mother Nancy, and my great aunts to a little placed called Batar. This was my late paternal grandmother's favourite place to eat, and it's the first time we've been there since she'd passed, so it felt a bit like honouring her memory to go there.
It's a small, cottage-like building out in the country with big windows that look out on a garden with a large population of hummingbirds, and the decor gives you the feeling that you're on a picnic even though you're indoors. Good place to go if you like tastey quiche and desserts that are almost too pretty to eat.
It's changed a bit, since we went last. They'd added on an extra room, and the clientelle has expanded to business-types as well as the ladies and elderly couples who mainly used to make it up. Even then, though, my little sister and I stuck out, being as I tend to be a bit on the gothy side, and my little sister favours her own unique blend of Emo/Hippy/Japanese Street style. We were sore thumbs, but at least we were shiny sore thumbs. ;-P
I'm intrigued about the place we're supposed to be going tonight. They tell me it's Mayan. :-? It's in the Fairoaks Mall in Columbus, so I know I'm going to have a very hard time not sneaking to the book store and blowing all my gas money... It's kind of sad when your own town doesn't have a book store of its own, making the only choices of reading material the inanities that populate the Volde-Mart's scant shelves, and religious pamphlets. I find myself drooling at the thought of a Borders, nowadays. -_-
