Pleasant day today. I'm taking full advantage of being able to sleep in a bit. Did a little practice driving toward taking the test (turns out I'll need to go through the driving portion after all). Then went out to eat at the local Cracker Barrell with Dad and little Sis and the Step-Mom. Had a good dinner and stopped by the little store that all Cracker Barrells have and picked up some candy to take home. *nibbles gummy berries and little candy skulls and bones*

Once we got back, Little Sis and I took a quick jaunt out to the pond and back while it was still light enough. Had to wade through a soybean field to get to it, and Little Sis is absolutely positive that the beans were trying to drag her down into the earth to make her queen of the Horrible Mole People. :-| Yes, indeed, she is my sister...

Currently watching some horror films ('Tis the season. I get into Halloween early. ^_^) that were left here by a friend of Little Sis who stayed the night last night. Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2 would be better if they didn't rely entirely on psychic episodes for exposition regarding the monster, what its doing and why. Well, really it wasn't so bad in the first, but doing the same thing in the second just shows a want for originality.

Unrest (part of that 8 Films to Die For thing) is pretty good. It's about four medical students who are haunted by the ghost of the cadaver they're meant to dissect. Relies more on storytelling than special effects, pretty well-done. The Gravedancers is another of the 8 Films, about three people who stirr up three murderous spirits by partying in a graveyard as part of a sendoff for a recently-deceased friend. Also pretty good, though some of the effects are a little iffy.

Generally, I tend to prefer supernatural horror over slasher flicks, with exception of the Psycho movies. I like those quite well, largely because I think poor Normans' such a sympathetic character. If the movie monster must be a person, I'll take charisma over a hockey mask, personally.

In other news Dad lost his job.  He'd been clashing with the people who've been managing there for a while now, as they've been making unrealistic demands of the case workers, so they decided to let him go.  With his qualifications, i don't think it should take him too long to find a new job.  I won't however, be going to Taekwondo until then, as it wouldn't sit right on my conscience to make him pay for that without employment, and I can't afford it on my own. On the bright side, the guy who works second shift at my hotel is a black belt in a Japanese martial art which I cannot spell, so he's offered to teach me the basics for free until I can get back to my regular lessons.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): "Dear Rob: I love your compassionate contrarianism. Your horoscopes are so spiritual they're practical. They're so earthy they're cosmic. They're anti-hero horoscopes for heroes, or maybe heroic horoscopes for anti-heroes. Here's my question: Do you have any advice for my psychotherapist? You're doing a better job than he is, and I'd like to give him some tips from you. -Pisces Gamer."
Dear Gamer: Tell your psychotherapist that what you Pisceans need these days is a dose of *reversalism.* That means you should experiment freely with seeing the other side of every story and tuning in to the opposite of what
you've tried before.

Interesting. /:-) No, wait, opposite, okay--Boring. >_> (;-P)
