Was reading an entry over in
genderqueer concerning the frustrations of bisexuals/pansexuals encountering disdain from the GL side of the GLBT community. As a pansexual, I haven't encountered this. (Though Aurey and I have encountered a little trouble on the Chicago Metra system for daring to kiss on the train. Which we promptly did anyway and then held a loud conversation between ourselves on how a lot of the world's problems were caused by small-minded people, and the world would be a much better place without them.) I suppose this is because I don't get out much (aside from my semi-monthly hurrah with Aurey), or perhaps I simply choose friends well. Another possible explanation is... Well, I don't really talk about the things that make me me all that much, largely because I learned a looooooooong time ago that what other people think of me doesn't affect who I am any more than I let it. Since it's "not an issue" to me, maybe it becomes "not an issue" to others. :-?
At any rate, back to the subject, I suppose I'm curious as to what people think of this phenomenon. :-? After all, in the end we're all in this boat together, are we not? Really I'd say that goes for everyone, not just the GLBT community... So, why are people so uncomfortable with the different do you think? All those shades of gray? Don't people get that there's variety for a reason, that it's a
good thing? Spice of life and all that, you know? Is it laziness, a sort of mental--possibly-willful-agoraphobia?
It's an old question, I know, but it wouldn't have been around so long if it didn't need an answer.
