semi-sleepy ramblings
Oct. 18th, 2006 11:56 pmHad a rather fun day today. My friend Aimee ( along with her husband and their daughter--a red-headed three-year-old pixie of a child they named Morgan LeFey and who has the attitude to match) is visiting from Texas. They roused me at noon and we went to Little Nashville to wander around. Picked up some mulling spices while at the winery to bring up on my next trip Aurey's way (mulled wine just sounds really good at the moment, plus it'll go with the dark chocolate w/ almonds raspberries and blueberries I'll also be bringing *drools just thinking about it... grabs napkin for keyboard*).
Being as I'd had about three-and-a-half hours of sleep, the afternoon had a vaguely dreamlike quality, which was fun, as Nashville and Brown County can be rather dreamish places on their own sometimes. I found myself zooming in on various things, like the monarch fluttering about the flowers in a little square we paused in, the thick moss growing on the roof of one of the shop's porches, a brown dog (who was named Molly and very friendly) dressed in an iridescent orange and purple cape with little jingley-bells on it and a matching witch's hat, the way a street musician's guitar seemed complimented by the wind chimes in a nearby shop. We stopped at a coffee shop for some iced chai and bagle sandwiches.
On the way back to the car, we stopped at a placed called "The Back Porch". Being tired, I waited outside while they went in and looked around. I also tested the various benches, rocking chairs and such they had sitting around and discovered a sort of combination hammock/easy chair that was probably the most comfortable thing I've ever sat in--which I did at some length, listening to more wind chimes and fantasizing about the day Aurey and I get a home and garden of our own.
After, we went to
Brown
County
State
Park
and wandered around. The trees hadn't fully started changeing yet and were all green and pale gold, with punctuations of red and orange here and there (you know how overzealous those maples can be ;-P). It was a bit misty and the Loreena McKennitt playing in the car (combined with my lack of sleep) made it all seem a little surreal. We saw a deer with little fuzzy antlers, and I noticed that the backs of fallen oak leaves have this really interesting brown-pink-lavender colour to them. :-?
Ah well, onward... Friday we go to the Cincinatti Zoo, where I haven't been since 6th grade. I'm looking forward to it /:-)
