Books, delicious books!
Aug. 22nd, 2006 01:01 amOne Book That Changed My Life
The Televisionary Oracle, by Rob Brezsny. A deliriously mad romp of a book. Introduced me to Persephone, who is to this day one of my patron (shouldn't it be matron?) goddesses. ^_^
One Book That I Have Read More Than Once
Weaveworld by Clive Barker. One of my personal favourites, and one of the first fantasies I read set in modern times. A marvelous tale concerning a race of people (essentailly Barker's spin on Sidhe) called the Seerkind, their battle to survive, and the humans who get caught up in it.
One Book I'd Have On A Desert Island
(*snickers* Well, at least it didn't say the only book. I'm going to pretend I get to take all of the ones mentioned in this post. ;-P) *ponders* I'd want something I never get tired of reading, so Dreams of Terror and Death: The Dream Cycle of H.P. Lovecraft. My favourite collection of his short stories so far. I love the lyricism of his writing style, and the imagination of the stories themselves. A lot of the work in this collection seems more like fantasy than horror to me, but then I do have funny notions sometimes, lol.
One Book That Made Me Laugh
I'm going to have to agree with
dameelysia on this. Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett is a laught-riot. Revelations as done by Monty Phython in collaboration with Douglas Adams. Speaking of whom, The Hitchiker's Quartet is tied for the place. ;-)
One Book That Made Me Cry
Stones from the River by Ursula Hegi. The story of a dwarf girl living in Germany during the time of the Nazis. A very good book about embracing the difference in oneself and in others. I identified with her quite a bit.
One Book I Wish I'd Written
I'm working on that, actually ;-)
One Book I Wish Had Never Been Written
Honestly? The Bible and the Koran are tied. Too many people through the ages have found excuses to hate, oppress, torture and kill other people in those books. No offence to folk who've found good in them, but that's my opinion on it. If they stay, they really need to go through some editing...
One Book I'm Currently Reading
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
One Book I've Been Meaning To Read
The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco (bought it for $3 at Half-Priced Books the other day, so that's going to be taken care of before long.)
