Just got caught up enough for a proper update. I made another trip to glorious Chicago again to visit with Aurey. It was marvelous, as any visit with him always is. (Hence the posting of "Cheek to Cheek" night before last.)

I got on the train early Friday morning, pulled into Chicago a little late. Aurey, dear that he is, rode the half hour into Chicago to meet me at the station. After grabbing a quick bite to eat, we hopped the Metra to La Grange. On the way to his house, we rented a few movies and got some lemongrass chicken sticks, ginger beer and plum wine at the local market. That night his friend Nick came over. We watched The Libertine (pretty good, but I prefer Quills when it comes to decidedly decadent films.) and afterward, I was treated to a bit of an impromptu concert including a seclection ranging from the orignal work of Aurey's late step-father, the operatic, showtunes and spoofs thereof. (My personal favourite was Some Enchanted Drag Queen.) Nick plays the piano beautifully, and both he and Aurey have sensational voices; it makes me want to learn to sing properly.

The next day, we took the Metra back into Chicago and went to see the King Tut exhibit at the Field Museum. It was absolutely fascinating, seeing all of those artifacts, feeling the age of them, not to mention realizing the sheer craftsmanship that went into making all of it! We picked up a tail as we walked through the exhibit--a spirit, though we're not sure if it was actually attached to the exhibit or just wandered around the museum in general. It had a sense of humour, either way. While I was stainding looking at an alabaster sculpture of a lion, it's tongue lolling far out of it's mouth, I was wondering to myself why it would be sculpted with it's tongue sticking out like that. A voice whispered softly just over my left shoulder "Because it was hot." :-| Then in the gift shop it decided to tip over some books on me.

After the exhibit, we took some time to view as much of the rest of the museum as we could. We toured the animal exhibits, with stuffed specimins from all over the world (the work that went into the dioramas was truly impressive), the permanent Egyptian exhibit they have there (including the mummified remains of a man named Harwa, rumoured to scream some nights and occasionally fall over in his case. We got a decidedly unhappy sense from him.), and the exhibits for African and Pacific cultures.
After it closed, we took a walk by Lake Michigan and picked up bits of beachglass.

Sunday we went out to eat at an excellent Thai restaurant and feasted on thai eggrolls, this marvelous soup (the name of which I can't remember), green curry, and sweet-potato ice cream. Then we walked back to the second run theater and watched X-men 3. In between there was much hanging out, movie-watching, work upon The Mummy: Secrets of the Past, and well... the things lovers do... ^_^

What a wonderful weekend...
