So this question was brought up by
aureantes in his group Alchemy Gold:
"Apart from the conventional notions of what "good people" do (attend worship, give to charity, etc.) and don't/shouldn't do (kill, hurt or abuse others, drink, swear, yell, dress immodestly, have sexual activity), what do you believe are the traits of a good soul?
To be a bit clearer, the *enduring* soul rather than the person of specific type, age, race/ethnicity, wealth, sex, gender, religion, culture, class, upbringing, talents, intelligence, appearance, whatever. When you take away reliance upon external 'appropriateness' to these things and look at the traits and attitudes in themselves, what emerges as being truly and intrinsically "good", rather than merely sanctioned/encouraged/enforced within the particular frame of a single incarnation?
Essential virtues and strengths....what makes for the souls that shine, be they pure as snow or more vividly and darkly bright?"
My answer: "I believe that the soul that shines is a dynamic soul. One that is ever growing, ever learning, ever exploring. One that doesn't let itself become limited by conventional notions and external appropriateness. As for "good" and "bad," I don't think such simplified terms exhist beyond conventional notions and external appropriateness. Therefore, a good soul doesn't exhist. Neither does a bad one. When looked at from the eternal standpoint of the enduring soul, and understanding that nothing can be destroyed, only changed, and that it's always just a matter of time for things to take their course, and time streatches on forever, how can it?"
