Feeling a bit lowish today, though a little tea and some swing music is presently making me feel a bit better. Re the Atlas Shrugged movie, I've been persuaded by my beast to give the chosen leads the benefit of the doubt (after all, they've both been in some enjoyable movies); so now my primary concern is for the script and whether they'll screw things up there. I've also had brought to my attention the Cthulhu movie thats' in post-production now... H.P. Lovecraft is pretty high on my list of favourite writers, and frankly this movie worries me... It has Tori Spelling in it. /:-/ It's being directed by some guy named Dan Gildark, and this seems to be his first. On the bright side it's not being directed by Uwe Boll *shivers convulsively*.

hmmm, here--have a meme

  1. celtic culture:
The Celtic culture has always attracted me. There's a romance to it, to my mind, and a beauty. From the intricacy of celtic knotwork, to the fact that it seemed to give a little more credit to women than in other ancient civilizations, to the old legends of gods, heroes and fae, to the pictures I've seen of the British Isles. Maybe it's partially because I have a little Celtic blood (I keep it in a bottle in the medicine cabinet ;-P)...
  2. danse macabre:
The Danse Macabre started out as a species of spectacular play traced back to the 14th century. These are survived by various engravings paintings and murals often depicting death as a fiddler or fluist leading people in a procession to the afterlife. The moral of the story is always that Death comes for us all, regardless of the power, wealth, or whatever a person holds on this Earth, from Pope to pauper. It's something we've all got to face--first through the loss of loved ones and then through taking the trip ourselves. The long and short of it is it's a universal thing, and I feel we should try to be on as friendly terms with it as possible.
  3. forests:
Well, I grew up doing the hiking thing fairly frequenly, and it's never worn off... I rarely feel as at-peace as when I'm shin deep in a creek in the middle of the woods with hours before I need to be anywhere else.
  4. horror:
As a genera, horror provides a safe and place for people to explore and indulge in their shadow sides. This makes it invaluable, in that it's better to get these things out and look them in the eye rather than repress them and try to keep them seperate from ourselves. Ever seen Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?
  5. m.c. escher:
The man was a flipping genius!
  6. natural disasters:
It just fascinates me to see nature shake things up a bit. It reminds people who's in charge.
  7. pre-code film:
These would be films from the era during which film enjoyed it's greatest artistic freedom, as the world was throwing off Victorian morality and discovering new. This was brought to an end in 1934, when Joseph Breen came to power in Hollywood and was able to take over censorship in the name of conservatives everywhere and their bruised moral sensibilities. Most things made afterward were trite and neutered bull...
  8. sidhe:
Sidhe is a gaelic term for fae. Generally pictured as the taller (or at least average-height). Tolkein elfy types. More or less the nobility of the fae.
  9. this ascension:
    A very good goth band.
  10. yellow curry:
:-P~.... Tastiest of the tasty. Nothing like yellow curry with chicken and potatos and carrots and little baby corn thingies, all poared over jasmine rice. Especially if it's from the Little Tibet (excellent little restaurant in Bloomington). *stomach growls*
